Slave Girl: Story of adventure with a sinister man keeping Americans captive. This film should not to be taken seriously (there’s even a speaking camel). Cast includes Yvonne De Carlo, George Brent, Broderick Crawford, Albert Dekker, Lois Collier, Andy Devine, and Arthur Treacher. (80 minutes, 1947)

The Proud Rebel: Well presented post Civil War research of 2-fisted Southern Ladd searching for medical help for a mute child (played by Ladd’s actual child).Olivia de Havilland is the female who tames him. Cast includes Alan Ladd, Olivia de Havilland, Dean Jagger, David Ladd, Ceeil Kellaway, Henry Hull, John Carradine, and Dean Stanton. (103 minutes, 1958)

Leadbelly: Poignant biography of the legendary folksinger Huddie Ledbetter, master of the twelve string guitar and long time convict on the Texas and Louisiana chain gangs. Cast includes Roger E. Mosley, Paul Benjamin, Madge Sinclair, Alan Manson, Albert P. Chamber, Craft Evans, and Loretta Greene. (126 minutes, 1976)

Siddhartha: A choppy rendition of the Hermann Hesse novel that follows an Indian as he leaves his family to a find more stimulating life. This film is too artsy, although on-location photography by Sven Nykvist is often illuminating. Cast includes Shashi Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Romesh Shama, Pinchoo Kapoor, Zul Vellani, and Amrik Singh. (95 minutes, 1973)

The Great McGinty: This film was Sturges’ directorial debut (and Oscar winning screenplay) and isn’t up to his later comedy classics, however Donlevy is phenomenal as the bum who is put into the governor’s chair by crooked politicians and then blows it all by trying to be truthful. Cast includes Brian Donlevy, Muriel Angelus, Akim Tamiroff, Allyn Joslyn, and Louis Jean Heydt. (81 minutes, 1940)

Iron Eagle: This is a comic magazine film in regards to an eighteen-year-old who commandeers an F sixteen aircraft and soars to the Middle East (playing rock music on his Walkman all the way) on a quest to recover his dad, who’s been taken hostage. Full of jingoistic superlatives, awkward morals, and individuals who die and miraculously return to life. Cast includes Louis Gossett, Jr., Jason Gedrick, David Suchet, Tim Thomerson, Larry G. Scott, Caroline Lagerfelt, and Jerry Levine. (119 minutes, 1986) .
