Travel In France : Where To Stay In Paris

by Jim Greaves

Paris is a city renowned around the globe for, amongst other things, it’s style, class and elegance, and, on those grounds, it attracts millions throughout the year who want to stay there and experience first hand its many charms. It’s tough to answer the question of where to stay while in Paris, because there are a lot of fantastic places.

One of the best ways to start deciding is choosing which district you’d like to be in. With twenty different districts, it may be a good idea to narrow your search to the left or right bank in order to keep your search short. Next, bring it down to districts founded on the inn or hotel which suits you the best in a particular district.

By “left or right bank,” we mean the two sides of the Seine river, which divides the city in two halves. The Seine runs in a westward direction, indicating that the left bank is generally the southern portion of Paris and the right half is the northern end of the city.

Knowing this route will be helpful when you are trying to figure out where to stay in Paris. While the two banks make up a essential whole, they differ from each other in significant ways.

If you are interested in fashion, art and the Bohemian way of life, you would do well on the left bank. It features many historical sites, interesting architecture and is the heart of Parisian popular culture. In Paris there is a great selection of exciting hotels, bed and breakfasts and inns, and some are affordably priced.

The right bank, however, is the epitome of high-society sophistication that usually goes hand-in-hand with Paris. It is also the business district where you will find the Champs Elysees and the L’Arc de Triomphe. It is thought to be highly metropolitan, as the neighborhoods are incredibly wealthy and beautiful constructed, ranging from the very classical to modern architectural structures.
