Eligibility Requirements for International Student Medical Insurance Plan

International student insurance plans cover those students who gain admission in various schools in the US or move out of the US to another country to pursue higher studies. To avail the best benefits, students should opt for an appropriate international student insurance plan offering worldwide coverage.

The insurance for international student plan covers a wide range of benefits like medical expenses, prescription medication expenses, mental health coverage, sports coverage, maternity costs and also coverage for terrorist attacks. The plans that have been put forth by established insurance providers are likely to be approved by many schools both in USA and Europe and meet the requirements of the schools in those countries.

You can contact your insurance provider to find out whether the school that you have opted for would accept the insurance plan chosen by you. The insurance providers can complete the waiver form which you can provide to the school?s Student Health Center.

International student insurance plans offer coverage not only for the student / individual but also for the spouses and children. Read the policy documents carefully to be aware of the benefits and exclusions.

It is also important to note the pre-existing conditions clause of international student insurance plan that you opt for. Most of these plans require a 12 month waiting period for coverage of certain benefits but note that some schools strictly insist on just a 6 month waiting period. In that case, you need to take assistance from your insurance provider and opt for a plan which meets the requirements of the school.

To avail the medical insurance for international students plan, you should meet certain eligibility criteria. For example, you need to be a full time student in a college / university or be associated with an educational institution as a full-time scholar and perform research for a minimum of 30 hours per week. While opting for an international student insurance plan, the individual also submits a valid educational visa for proof.

In addition to the individual, dependants also need to meet some eligibility criteria. In case of spouse, a legal marriage proof is required. Children should be less than 19 years and unmarried. They should be dependant on the individual for support.

Ensure the financial stability of the insurance provider by researching on AM best rating. The insurance plans should be underwritten by an established organization. The company should provide round-the-clock assistance across all countries during emergencies.
